Some of us wonder if political correctness may have added to many people’s feelings of awkwardness around disability. One branch of crip culture heads off discomfort through a very distinct brand of humour. 

Humour is a highly accessible form of cultural politicising that occasionally reaches the mainstream as hidden-camera spoof (I’m Spazticus), mockumentary (Cast Offs), or even as the odd commercial. Yet stand-up could be thought of as the natural home for this dark, often self-mocking brand of humour.

However, be warned! Stand-up comedy isn’t for the fainthearted or those quick to take offence!
